How are EIC codes set up?

All organisations must have an EIC code if they are to be referenced on electronic confirmation documents. This is regardless of whether that organisation is planning to electronically match.

Once a request for a new EIC code is received, the organisation name needs to be searched on two websites to check for an existing record. These are:

 *  If no EIC code is found you can apply for a code directly at https://www.efet.org/home/coderequest

 *  On form submission, your code will be re-checked.  You may also be redirected to your local issuing office**

 *  After checking all the details, a new code is created considering the guidelines and rules of creating the code

 *  All details are also updated on the EFET static data site

**Local Issuing Offices can also create EIC codes. For UK organisations, the National Grid is the LIO responsible. UK organisations should contact the National Grid, especially if their VAT number is the same as that registered with other existing EIC codes.
